Bruce Avenell - Managing Director

A former CEO and Executive Director of AIG and Country Operations Manager of QBE in Papua New Guinea, Bruce has a comprehensive knowledge of the Insurance market in PNG, where he has lived and worked for over fourteen years.

Prior to returning to PNG in 2009, Bruce owned and operated his own insurance broking business with three offices in Queensland, Australia, specialising in selling bespoke insurance products to those in the Motor Trade and Rural sectors.

Since 1996 Bruce has specialised in providing technical expertise in risk management, policy drafting and pre- and post-loss client advocacy and insurance services for individual clients, Governments and Multi-National Corporations, working on individual policies with asset values of up to AUD 26 Billion. Bruce particularly enjoys assisting businesses to return to normal after major events and crises’.

In risk management, Bruce has worked on a variety of projects, some of the most interesting involving a strategy for a zoo to support the long-term survival of elephants in Asia through genetic bloodline diversification and the 2008 Australian Open Tennis. In Papua New Guinea, Bruce is a Director of the Insurance Underwriters Association and head of their Technical Committee. He is also on the Executive Committee of the Australia PNG Business Council.

Bruce is a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance and holds Diplomas in General Insurance, Risk Management and Financial Services (Broking).
